Ooh, that sounds more like it. I read somewhere that Malaysia does have ratios of 1:3 (used to be 1:5) for under 1 year, and 1:5 for 2-3 year olds.

But I been digging through all those akta-akta also can't seem to find it =-P

Lol, "If I'm not mistaken, if my memory serves me right, in fact I don't remember whatever...I'm bad in remembering these" :)

Well... M'sia... I don't think there is even a kindy with so little children in a class such as less than 10. That's the average from the research done from the recent notes I got. I did get a note on the ratio last time which it's smaller but I don't want to dig it out from a huge pile of notes and books ;p

If I'm not mistaken, if my memory serves me right, in fact I don't remember whatever I had learnt in previous semesters for those numerical or theory thing, I'm bad in remembering these. below 4 years old, it's 1:<5 and above 4, it's 1:<10

Then again... I don't think I see any local kindy with such number of students. As for child care centre, maybe...

Hah?!?!

1 teacher and 1 assistant to 25 to 30 kids, even if they're all 2 or 3 years old?

Here in UK it's:
• 3:1 for under twos

• 4:1 for two to threes

• 8:1 for three to fives

Even then it's a big headache, because there will be staff doing paperwork, on makan break, lazy, etc etc =-P

What I metioned was for 6 and below, the average ratio of all the different early childhood agencies. We are only covering ag 6 and below. I got this from the latest notes given by our lecturer.

Oh, there'll be one assistant for each teacher.

Ooh, I was referring to younger kids, like those 0 to 1, 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 4 to 5. Any idea bout those?

But is there a website that show the ratio for those older kids that you mentioned?

It depends on different agency, private or government and then under government there are subdivided into various agency again.

Typically for regular children to teacher ratio is between 25:1 to 30:1

As for special needs children to teacher ratio is between 10:1

Hi Irene,

Do you anything about adult to child ratios in Malaysia? I read it used to be 5:1, then became 3:1, according to the Child Care Centre Act, but I checked the act I didn't see anything about ratios.

And I also can't seem to find the specific age brackets for those ratios...

Is there an option to receive an e-mail notification when a reply has been posted?
